Memphis @ Charlotte--Really wanted to back Memphis as they played hard against the Pistons but The Grizzlies are 3-7 ATS versus Southeast foes, 2-9 ATS on the road and 0-6 ATS overall and those are numbers I can't back and I am not ready trust Charlotte as 6 point favorites against anyone.

Boston @ Miami--this line is low enough to attract Boston bettors and they seem to have rebounded very well after the losing streak. The thing is I am on the Heat. I love to back home teams coming off a road trip of 3 games or more as a small number either way. The Celtics just beat the Suns and will have one eye on the meeting with the Magic tomorrow and look right past the heat. Boston has faltered in seven of its last 10 on the road ATS and the Celtics are 0-6 ATS of late when facing teams with a winning record.

Heat +6

Raptors @ Detroit--passing on this game but I suggest that if you take the Raptors you look at the injury reports because they have been playing about nine deep in the last two to three games and that has to be catching up with them. The Raptors have failed in five of their last seven visits ATS and in six of seven against the Pistons overall. If I was going to play it would be Detroit, but I am passing as mentioned.

Phoenix @ New York--The Suns are on the end of a road trip and you have to imagine the K nicks may have this one circled on the calendar. Mike D'Antoni had a shot at his former club and blew it but now they are in a much better position. Phoenix has been one of the worst bets on the board since the end of November (5-17-1 ATS). The Suns have stumbled in six of their last eight against New York ATS. They are 3-8-1 ATS in their last 11 outings on the road and 0-4-1 ATS outside their conference. The Knicks have covered at an 8-3-1 rate when facing winning teams and four straight versus Pacific Division opposition.Knicks keep it close to the wire tonight.

Dallas @ Milwaukee--The Mavericks haven't had much luck at the Bradley Center, dropping eight straight ATS. The Bucks look to rebound after losing two straight but they will have to take on a healthy Dallas squad to do it. Dallas is is 6-20-1 ATS when facing Central Division denizens. The Bucks have cashed eight straight versus Southwest Division opponents. Dallas is 7-19 ATS off road win That is enough for me to take my third home dog tonight.

Milwaukee +2

Taking over the total in this game too. The Mavericks started slow in Philly but will be heated up and ready to score and Milwaukee will keep pace.Eleven of the past 14 series scuffles have tipped over. Milwaukee has gone over in eight of its last 10 tries. Take the over in a this high scoring affair.

OVER 202.5

Utah @ Houston--I simply love Utah in this game as they match up well against the Rockets and always play them tough. The Jazz lost in their initial visit to the Toyota Center as nine-point dogs, 120-115, but cashed for the sixth time in seven road meetings. They are 11-4 ATS in the past 15 clashes with the Rockets. Utah has also covered 20 of 27 versus Southwest Division opponents. Houston has sputtered in 10 of 14 ATS overall and dropped six of eight spread decisions at home. The Jazz are worth a look on the moneyline here.

OKC @ Golden St.--passing but if I were to like anything in this game it would be the over but what else do you expect in a Golden St game?

Lakers @ Clippers--With or without Kobe the Lakers can't be taking the Clippers seriously and I can't bet on the Clippers, pass.

Wizards @ Kings--I can't back the Kings as favorites nor can I back the Wizards on the road, another pass for me.

Cleveland @ Portland--I know it may not seem like it, but I think the Blazers are better than the Cavs and with a home court they should cruise tonight. Portland has cashed six of eight versus Cleveland at the Rose Garden and the home team is 5-1 ATS in the last six confrontations. The Cavaliers have faded in five of six on the road ATS while the Blazers have cashed 15 of 22 at home.

The Thunder have been playing well of late and should win this on the court.Detroit is 5-13 ATS as a favorite of 3.5 to 9.5 and OKC is 17-7 ATS after an ATS win.The lowly Thunder have ‘covered’ four straight, 14 of their last 17 and eight in a row at home. Detroit has dropped eight of its last 11 non-conference outings ATS and 13 of its last 18 against Northwest Division opponents. The Thunder is 10-1 ATS in their last 11 against Eastern foes. The thunder rolls at home tonight.

Nets +2

Both of these teams do well in back to back spots but the Blazers are in three in four nights for tonight's game. Younger teams have trouble staying focused on the road especially when they are far from home. Which should explain the loss last night. Portland is 1-6 ATS after consecutive non-conference games and the Nets are 6-1 ATS after allowing 110+ point. New Jersey has covered seven of its last 10 against non-conference foes and have a good matchup with size at the center spot.

I really like to back the Bulls in this game because they are healthy again and the win in Toronto last night is huge for this team. They now return home to face a team that is looking to sweep the season series and that should give them the motivation. It's a bit sketchy with the schedule stretch for this Bulls team but this game is circled for them and they will play to the end. The home team is 15-6 ATS in this series.

Denver -1.5

In what should be one of the best games of the night the Suns play in Denver. Denver has been a pleasant surprise this year. The suns are 0-8 ATS after having won 4 of their last 5 and the Nuggets are a sweet 47-34 ATS as a favorite. Denver has won nine of its last dozen and six of seven at home.The Nuggets have cashed four straight series clashes at home and the home team is 13-3 in the past 16 showdowns. Phoenix has come up short in seven of its last 10 on the road ATS and get beat tonight!

Clippers @ Pacers
Wow--Danny Granger looks good for the Pacers and he is off a 41 point performance in his last game, the problem is he has to do that almost every night for this team to win because they are shorthanded of late. Ford and Murphy are game time decisions tonight. The Clippers are off a frustrating loss in OT to the Bulls but are playing better ball especially when it comes to getting the cash. The LA Clippers have proved a go-to-team recently, cashing eight of 11 overall and five of seven on the highway. It will be impossible for Granger to have the same kind of game they did last time and the Clippers will walk away with a win on the road they most desperately need!

“We have try to regroup and we have two more games on this road trip,” Camby said.

Philly @ Washington
The big news here is Elton Brand will be out of the lineup tonight as he separated his shoulder in the last game that he played. If Philadelphia wants to go small, it could use Thaddeus Young in Brand’s place. Young would switch from small to power forward in the starting lineup. Rookie Marreese Speights and Reggie Evans will likely have their roles expanded.

Jamison could be missing for the Wizards--who are playing some horrible basketball shooting poorly and losers of four straight. The thing is Washington is looking for revenge after getting beat by the Sixers and the Sixers don't play well in Washington. Philadelphia has dropped nine of its last 13 on the road ATS and eight of nine against Southeast Division competition. The 76ers have come up short in four of their last five visits to the Verizon Center.

This is going to be an ugly one but if I had to I would take the Wizards at +1.

Warriors @ Hawks
The Hawks are off a very tough loss to the Celtics in a game they had but let slip away late in the fourth quarter. Atlanta has won two of three during its current eight-game home stand. The Hawks have 'covered' four of five against Golden State and six of eight against the West. The Warriors have flopped in six of seven on the road ATS and in eight of 11 versus Eastern foes. I hate to drop these many points but you have to expect the Hawks to rebouond with a big win and cover the 10 points.

Milwaukee@ New York
This game is tough because the Knicks actually looked like a decent team on the road trip out west but they have had no luck against the Bucks and have lost four straight against them. Luckily for the Knicks they get the Bucks on the end of a long and grueling road trip. On Wednesday against the Sixers, the bucks were tired so I would expect more form them tonight. The Knicks coming home off a road trip will produce a lower score even though they play up tempo basketball. The Knicks have gone under in 7 of 9 overall and in 6 of the last 7 against the Central.

UNDER 215

Dallas @ New Jersey
Jason Kidd returns to NJ for the first time since leaving the Nets. “The things that we accomplished while I was there, nobody can take that away,” said Kidd, who is averaging 9.3 points, 8.2 assists and 6.4 rebounds for the 14-10 Mavericks. “We took something that was almost nothing and we had a great ride. Got to the finals twice, made it to the playoffs every year and we brought a lot of respect to New Jersey basketball.

“I did everything I could.”

You could tell his time there was pretty important but he will have to take on Devin Harris at point who is having a great season and was the main piece in return for Kidd.Dallas has thrived against New Jersey, grabbing the cheese in 12 of 16 meetings. The Mavericks are currently on a six-game ATS spread run on the highway. The Nets are 3-13-2 ATS of late against Southwest Division outfits. Jason Kidd will make sure to be up and ready for this game. NJ is 26-46 ATS as a home dog of 3.5-6 points and Dallas is an amazing 197-139 ATS after a non conference game since 1996.

Dallas -3.5

Chicago @ Boston
The Celtics have been red hot and are off a win against the Hawks in the final minutes. Including playoffs, the Celtics have won 33 of their last 35 at home. They’re 62-8 there since the beginning of last season, allowing an average of 87.8 points in that span. The Bulls come into this game off two OT games and you have to wonder how much gas they have left in the tank for this game. I am afraid the Celtics could be looking past this game as they are still basking in the Hawks win and will find a tough time matching the intensity against the Bulls. On the same note I can't back the Bulls off two OT games and with a bad road record. If I had to I would most likely take the total to go OVER but there are better games out there tonight.

Lakers @ Miami

ESPN has picked a good game for tonight as Kobe takes on Wade in Miami. Keep a close eye on the starting lineup as they are announced because Gasol has strep and Odom has a respiratory illness that he played through against the Knicks. I am going right to the total on this and going OVER 203 The Lakers are 6-1 Over off back to back home wins and the Heat are shooting miserable in the current losing streak so a return to form against a big team is in the cards as Wade will often play up when he is playing against a superstar.Miami has zipped over in five of seven at home and in six of seven against Pacific Division teams. Los Angeles has skied over in eight of 11 versus the East. I wanted to take the Heat at home plus the points but they have some awful ATS numbers so I will stick with the total.

Toronto @ Oklahoma City
Yuck, what a crummy game but I believe just because its a crummy game does not mean you can't find a good betting opportunity. In fact I like the side and the total in this game! I was searching around the net and I found a great system for the total here:
PLAY OVER on all teams like Toronto, when the total is 200 to 209.5 after two or more consecutive Unders, in a game involving two average offensive teams scoring 92-98 points per game. Toronto has actually played five consecutive games under the total and facing a bad defensive team like Oklahoma City figures to give them the chance to score points. The Thunder is no offensive juggernaut; nevertheless they have been better of late averaging 99 points per game in last five outings.

Since 2004, this system is 30-7, 81.1 percent, with average score totaling 216.4 points a game. In fact, almost 70 percent of the games that fit this system have gone over the number by seven or more points, including both winners this season.
Now for the side, OKC may have bad numbers but they are not bad at covering at 13-12 ATS on the season. The Raptors are another story as they have fallen eight of last 10 times they have played and are on 3-11 ATS run. Oklahoma City looks to extend a four-game 'cover' run against Toronto. The Thunder has cashed seven of 10 overall. The Raptors are 8-21 ATS versus Western foes and they have failed in 14 of 16 Friday fracases ATS.

I never like to back a team as a road favorite that are not playing well and the Thunder have played well enough to be in games this year and just may win this one. Double dip here.

OKC +6 and OVER 200

Charlotte @ Memphis
When your as bad as these two teams are you rarely look ahead to games, so even though Memphis plays the lakers next they have to pay attention to the Bobcats although they have owned them of late at 7-1 in the last eight. Wallace comes back for the bobcats and this game to me leans heavily towards Charlotte. OJ Mayo is having a great start to the season for Memphis but him and Rudy gay seem to be the only contributors to this team and that may leave them vulnerable to an inside game that Charlotte has. Charlotte has cashed seven of nine on the highway and will be in this game enough to get the cash and maybe even the outright win!

Bobcats +4

Utah @ Detroit

This is one of the hardest games for me to like tonight and it is a pass for me. I do see AI getting more comfortable and believe that will lead to more overs for the Pistons as the lines are usually set low and that could happen tonight but I will be laying off this game.

Kings @ Rockets
The Kings are in the middle of a tough road stretch and have been hanging their heads in shame after the way Portland handled them. Tonight should be more of the same as the Rockets finally have a healthy team and Artest will face his old club. The Rockets really want to do well in this game before they head off on the road.“You’ve gotta get Sacramento coming in here,” Adelman said. “We’ve got to come out and play a solid game because after that we’ve got three more (road) games in a row (in four days).” The Rockets are a very nice 26-10 ATS on friday nights!

When Philly lost Cheeks as coach a message was sent out to the team...

“It was good to get a win for all of us,” Iguodala said. “When a change like this happens, it sends a message of uncertainty that you don’t know what might happen next. We’ve got to turn it on.”

They responded with a big win but it was over Washington.

The Bucks however know they need to start winning on the road and that it starts with defense. They did that in Miami. “When you go on the road, you’ve got to be able to guard people,” Skiles said. “You’ve got to be able to guard people to try to win. Tonight we did. Maybe we can build off of this.” The Sixers have dropped five of their last six spread decisions at home and 19 of 27 against conference foes. Conversely, the Bucks have cashed 13 of 16 against conference competition and at a 10-4-1 clip on the highway. Milwaukee is 9-1 ATS off SU win...

Bucks +4

The Celtics and the Hawks go at it again and the Hawks may still be smarting from the 7 game playoff loss but the Celtics are running the league right now. The Atlanta Hawks have established Philips Arena as one of the NBA’s toughest venues to visit this season, winning nine of their first 10 home games - including the last seven. The Hawks have been looking forward to this game and they know its an important one since it is at home.
“If we continue to take care of our home court, we can put ourselves in good position to get ahead of some of the teams in our division,” said Johnson, a former Celtics first-round draft pick. “It’s a big advantage (playing at home), especially when the crowd is up to it.”

The Celtics have come up short in four of their last five trips to Georgia ATS.

Hawks +4

The Pacers finally get some home cooking while the Warriors take to the road. They take to the road in a place they have never played well at. The Warriors have lost and failed in their last three trips to the post and they have dropped eight of their last nine on the road (2-7 ATS). The Pacers snapped a six-game losing streak Monday with a win at Washington, 118-98. Indiana has 'covered' six of seven versus Golden State at Conseco Fieldhouse and six of seven series encounters overall. The Warriors are 6-14 ATS off a double-digit home loss.The warriors are walking into a lions den.

Pacers -6

I hate this next pick. Mainly because they are on the road and they are small chalk which is my first sign to play a home dog but the stats don't lie. The Raptors have been out rebounded in 13 straight games and the Mavericks are off the worst shooting percentage of the year at just 34%. The Mavericks have covered five straight and seven of 10 away from home. Toronto has come up short in nine of 12 ATS at Air Canada Centre. The Mavericks play badly at Toronto but the Dino's are just 8-20 ATS against the west. Dallas is 89-59 ATS Away off BB home games.

Dallas -2

The Jazz go to NJ looking to avenge the worst loss of the season and it was at home. The Nets don't play well at home so this could set up well for the Jazz but I am on the total. In watching the nets this year on several occasions they have a tendency to score plenty of points against a team like the Jazz and the Jazz are off a horrible shooting performance so that will lead to plenty of points.

Toronto ended a five-game slide Wednesday with a home win over Indiana. The Raptors now look to snap a four-game road skid. New Jersey had won and 'covered' seven of nine until coming up short at home Wednesday against New York, 121-109. The Nets are 6-0-1 ATS off a double-digit home loss. The home team is 11-5-1 in the past 16 meetings

Milwaukee has been one of the best bets on the board in the early going, getting the green at a 10-2-1 clip since Nov. 2. Conversely, Atlanta has failed to cash in its six trips to the post. The Bucks have 'covered' at a 7-1-1 clip on the road and they have cashed eight straight against conference competition. They will be in this with a chance to upset!!

Houston -8

Houston has won and 'covered' three straight and five of its last six. Indiana played Tuesday at Dallas. The Pacers are 1-4 ATS when playing back-to-back. The home team has cashed in five of the last six meetings. Take the Rockets to give it to the Pacers

Wolves +5
Phoenix played Tuesday at Oklahoma City while Minnesota has been idle since Sunday's impressive upset win at Detroit, 106-80. The Wolves have won two of their last three and cashed five of their last seven. In short the Wolves are playing very well, maybe Mchale was not so stupid after all.

This may be a lot of points but the Blazers are playing great basketball and the Kings are off a game against the Lakers and play a rested Blazer team with size and d4epth. Blazers own the boads and crown the Kings.

Detroit is 19-6 ATS after 2 consecutive covers as a favorite and is coming off a come from behind win. A.I. is already starting to gel with his new team and they should be ready to give the Lakers fits tonight. Detroit has thrived against Los Angeles, getting the cheddar at an 11-4-1 clip. Prior to Thursday's clash with the Warriors, the Pistons had cashed five of six on the road and six of seven against Western Conference competition. That improved after last night and they keep it close tonight.

Denver +10

The Nuggets have cashed five of their last six when playing back-to-back. Boston is riding the crest of a six-game winning streak, though the defending champs have failed to get the green in three of four overall and four of five at TD Banknorth Garden. The Nuggets have cashed eight straight against Atlantic Division opponents. Denver is 35-64 ATS AWAY after having won 3 of their last 4 and they keep it close against the Celtics.

Its always dangerous backing a bad team like the Bobcats but this is more of a play against the jazz then with the Cats. The Jazz are road weary right now and looked bad against the Wizards and should have one eye on Cleveland as they sleep walk through another game tonight. This will be the third road game in four nights and if they lose this one a fade when they play their fourth game in five nights will be in order. The home team has cashed in the last four series clashes and the dog is 6-2 in the past eight. The Jazz are 4-10 ATS when facing Southeast Division competition.

UTAH is 8-21 ATS (-15.1 Units) in road games vs. poor teams outscored by 3+ PPG over L3 seasons. The average score was UTAH 101.6, OPPONENT 101.7 - (Rating = 1*)

Game 6 Boston / Detroit

The thought of any game six usually makes any true Boston fan whince (sorry
Buckner) but not tonight. Boston +2.5 f/h, +6 and ML

Rip is banged up but will play and that could be a mistake as he banged up
shooting elbow. The Hunter outburst last game shows you just how little this
team believes in Flip at the helm. The Celtics now the Lakers clinched and they
know that they have yet to win a game six and that puts the same type of
pressure on them that they had to win their first road game. This one is
over!

Boston vs. Detroit Game 6

Before Celtic nation declares me a traitor and a turncoat hear me out. :) The
good news is for my Celtics is I have been very cold in the NBAA playoffs.

I believe and certainly hope that the Celtics win this game but six points is
too much and I would not be surprised if they lose tonight. The Pistons know
they can win on the road and already won in Boston. They also have been
criticized for not giving it thier all unless they are backed against the wall
something I think they will take to heart tonight. The Celtics need a full
effort from the team to beat the Pistons and I really have only seen it on a
couple of occassions. Garnett is shooting 8 ft jumpers instead of going to the
rack and Allen is AWOL but Doc still tries to force him into the game. The Celts
have now played 16 games in 31 days, all high intensity contests, causing not
only physical fatigue, but mental as well. "I don't like to use the fatigue
card,” Rivers said “ ,but I don't think it's physical fatigue, but yes,
from watching the film, there was some mental fatigue." Boston hopes playing at
TD Northbank Garden will reenergize them and don’t fall prey to being 1-8 ATS
revenging a loss where team scored less than 85 points this season.If the
Detroit backcourt plays with the passion McDyess, they should win and move up to
8-1 ATS as a road underdog in the 5-10.5 point range.The underdog is 9-3 ATS in
the last 12 meetings.

Although they have had trouble winning on the road in the playoffs don't
forget that the Celtics were great on the road in the regualr season. The win in
game three was enormous as all of the pressure now squarely sits with the
Pistons. Rodney Stucky has been a superstar for the Pistons but its the Celtics
that have gotten better bench play of late overall. Doc Rivers ran a superb game
plan and got everyone involved and helped guards bust the press with back court
screens. Boston is now 34-16 ATS after a win by 10 points or more this season.
The Pistons showed zero motivation in the second half and gave up when they
needed to standup. The Pistons again exhibited why they are 2-13 ATS in the
Conference Finals over the last three seasons. They have a history of falling
down after a bad performace as noted by 15-30 ATS after scoring 35 points or
less in the first half last game.Boston has covered last 20 of 28 contests as
underdogs and 6-0 against the number when priced at 5-to 10.5 points and they
will get my money tonight.

The Celtics lost a pivotal
game two and know now that they must win a game on the road if they want to take
this series. The Celtics have been prepared to take a game on the road and know
that they can win in Detroit as they did it during the season. The Celtics seem
to be excited about finally being in the underdog role. When asked about being
down in a series for the first time, Ray Allen responded, “I’m excited about
it,” offered Allen. “We just put ourselves in a position where we’ve put our
backs up against the wall.” The big three are starting to gel and the key will
be how and if the Celtics bench can respond to the challenge, they were the
difference in the loss in game two and could be the difference in the win today.
I am not ready to crown them champions of the East but I like them in this game
tonight.

been incredible at home. The play of Rondo in the last home game is very
impressive and if he could maintain that play today this game will not even be
close. In fact if not for a few bad calls the Celtics would have won the last
game. That was by far one of the worst calls I had seen in the playoffs. (I
digress and am a homer, but it was bad) Home teams are 21-2 and 15-6-2 ATS in
the semifainal round and after the horrible shooting game they had in Cleveland

Rivers team at home, with perfect 7-0 playoff record and five covers. He’s

lose at home. Although the Jazz were thumped twice in LA they rebounded with a

Cleveland Vs Boston

There is no doubt about it I am a Celtic fan so I will asterik
my pick on game one as showing some bias. The first thing that stands out about
this game is the line as ten points seems way too high. The Cavs are very
talented and this line seems inflated, and that is just one of the reasons I
like it. The celtics got almost upended by the eight
seed Hawks and will make sure they do not go down that same road again. Pierce
gets James on defense and has always claimed to be a great defender and will be
put to the test. The Celtics are 39-6 and 29-15-1 at TD Banknorth Garden, where
they will be the first two games. The Pierce posse is 9-1 ATS after game where
they allowed a shooting pct. of 35 percent or less this season. The Celtics are
also 34-14 ATS off a win by ten points or more. I am staying away from the total
with a lean to the over. James will not have help by his supporting cast and the
Celtics win game one easily!

Washington -4--The wizards trounced the Cavs in the last game and that gave them confidence
to take this series to another level but in order to do that they must win
today. The Cavs could not shoot and looked as theough they gave up late in this
contest which is not good news. Cleveland is just 5-14 ATS off an embarrassing
road loss, scoring less than 80 points the last three seasons and just 3-14 ATS
after scoring 35 points or less in the first half last game. I dont look for the
type of blowout that happened in game one but Wizards will win again today.

DP is killing them overall but especially the NBA playoffs! Watch for his hot

Raptors +6--The Magic are off a flawless game in game one
and I just don't see that happening again tonight against a Raptor team that has
talent enough to keep this close and maybe even win.

Mavs +3.5--The Mave had a collapse in game one and I look
for more intensity when they play tonight and the pressure switches to them.
Kidd will look to make Paul play under a tougher press. It will be close one way
or the other.

and that they will not get beat three times in a row! You don't want to give
Lebron and company any poster board material. The Wizards can play up to the
level at the Cavs place and may suprise a few folks today as they have a chance
to win this one at the buzzer.

and the thoughts of getting bounced from last years first round.

The Rockets have been underestimated all year. The Jazz are
looking past this game already and are going to get caught tonight and hammered

NBA aficionados are thrilled playoff season is here to crown another champion. In the last 20-plus years, only one seed lower than number three has won the NBA championship and that was the 1994-95 Houston Rockets, who repeated after suffering a number of injuries early in that season. The fact remains you can’t get to the Finals unless you win the opening round, as the Dallas Mavericks found out last year.

The opening round of the post-season is fraught with all kinds of landmines, meaning the sharp bettor has to be on top of his game, if he expects to win in overall in the NBA Playoffs.

Dating back 11 seasons, it is discovered home teams win just under two-thirds of the time, with 273-142 straight up record, 65.7 percent. The two conferences have remarkably similar records during this time span, the Eastern Conference is 136-70, 66 percent and their counterpart in the West, is 137-72, 65.5 percent. Overall, wagering on the home team is a losing proposition at 208-198-9 against the spread, good for only 51.2 percent. The eight teams in the West have been a marginally better bet at 109-101 ATS, 51.9 winning percentage, compared to those in the East at 99-97-9 ATS.

It is obvious no money is available to be made blindly betting into one side or the other. That means seeking our own opportunity is the best thing we can to improve out profit potential. The first order of business is to determine if home underdogs are smart play. In this first round, home underdogs don’t show up until after the first two games of any series has been played. What we find is the higher seed is a significant enough favorite, to never be a home underdog for starters. When the scene switched to new arena, this is when the home pooch arrives at the door.

While this would have the appearance of a good wager, it has not been. Home dogs are poor 29-49 straight up and mildly better 36-40-2 ATS. This points to the better team being just that, better.

What happens after one game is in the books? This is area where the light starts to shine brighter, especially in one category. When any NBA team loses first game of a series, it goes with saying their opponent has caught their attention. From here the focus is shifted to Terminator- like, with only one thing in mind, even up the series at a game apiece. Here our home favorite is excited and ready to play with passion, while the visiting team can talk about wanting to win both road tilts, but the fact of the matter is they are somewhat satisfied and seldom can match the intensity of desperate team in need of a victory. Here are opening game home loser is 18-2 and 15-4-1 ATS, for a bookie busting 78.9 percent. That is +10.6 units on only 20 straight bets.

Game 1 losers are 15-4-1 ATS in next contest.

Game three is generally consider the most important encounter in a series, outside of a series finale. Here, three scenarios exist, the visitor is up 2-0, the visitor down is 0-2 or the teams tied at 1-1. Only a few instances have occurred where the visitor has lost both contests on home court and this holds no value for interpretation or making money. Visiting teams that have split are slightly below average bet when the series shifts to new locale, winning and covering just over 47 percent of the time.

One strong angle to play is related to teams that are 1-1 and tied to previous profitable trend. Mentioned above, is game two winners that came back to even up series. As great as those teams play in that particular situation, they often crumble like a cookie when they have to travel for next ballgame. Many times the emotion used can not be mustered two consecutive games, especially on the road. Now the home crowd is wired, with their team having an opportunity to take the upper hand in the series and the home squad has the extra motivation off a loss and understands they just have to “hold serve” in order to win and advance. All visiting teams off a win with the series tied at one, are 6-14 SU and against the number. This is measly 30 percent for backers.

Game 3 visitors are 6-14 ATS off a win if series is tied.

Another profitable position to take is home teams down 2-0. Though most teams don’t win series down by such a margin, coaches and players are optimistic by nature and believe in there heart, if they can win this contest they are back in the series. While the merits of this wisdom are debatable, what concerns the winning bettor looking for angle is opportunity.

The out-of-town team might be feeling their oats also, knowing just a couple of wins are necessary and might not bring A-game to face club they’ve already conquered twice. In this instance, the home team comes out with fire and has won 28 of 50 matchups on the hardwood. Mostly importantly is how they perform versus the oddsmaker and here we find the home team is 31-18-1 ATS, 63.2 percent.

The last aspect to cover has to do with the performances of first round series going the max. For many years, the opening round was a best-of-five foray. This was changed to best-of-seven in 2003, with too many higher seeded teams being bumped and owners, GM’s and coaches complaining that after 82 games to earn a position, any team could have a couple of bad outings and be chucked to the curb.

One frequent aspect believed to be true is home teams have a decided edge in these final encounters. This does turn out to be true, with the visiting teams only 6-18, 25 percent to win the series. Those setting the numbers play into this knowledge and shade the home squads accordingly. Since these NBA teams are known for winning, closer games are also the rule, which can get lost amid fine winning record. Though the visitors have a low wining percentage, they are 12-12 against the spread in these deciding conflicts.

This is my favorite time of the year because the playoffs are almost here and
the games down the stretch can be fun to watch. What I like about the Jazz is
there is no quit in this team down the stretch, Sloan will make sure of it. Utah
is 15-2 ATS vs. .500 or better teams and Dallas is 0-7 ATS off 3+
games w/ 11 or less turnovers. They can still clinch home court in the first
round which is clutch with the record they have at home and watch Deron
Williams, he shut down Chris Paul and is one of the best points in the
business.

Denver +4.5

Denver slumped when they lost K-mart for a few games and lost a few they
shouldn't have down the stretch making this a must win for both teams tonight.
This is going to be a great game and it will be close down the stretch and I

When I saw this game I knew exactly what team I was going to take and the line solidified it.

This line will drop and I will wait to get it at less, but it won’t matter. The Bulls are going to win this game handedly. In fact I would not be surprised if it was by double digits. Everyone out there is scratching their head and saying the Cavs are getting points? How? Why? The Cavs just beat them? Well on the road is a different story and the Bulls have revenge and a lot to show with this game tonight. They were close in the last game before James pulled it away with minutes left but that won’t happen tonight. Lebron is off a huge 50 point game last night and will not get up for this game tonight.

The Spurs at home make a point of playing great defense and the Pacers play offense and so it is a matter of what will dominate in this game. The Pacers are off a game last night where they were beat by the Rockets and so I don’t look for an up and down game and that means the Spurs can control the tempo.

When the Pacers are a road dog with the total between 195-200 the under is 24-13-2

Houston @ Dallas

This game is covered in great storylines with the Rockets on a huge winning streak even though they have lost the services of Yao Ming for the rest of the season. On the other end of the coin the Mavericks have had a tough time winning since making the trade for Jason Kidd and now Dirk Nowitzski will be suspended for tonight’s game. The current line is Dallas -1 and that may have some people shaking their head like in game one of TNT’s games tonight but I believe it is dead on. The Rockets have always had trouble playing in Dallas. Houston is off a game last night and so the back to back theory comes in and the Rockets are 7-12 ATS as a road dog in back to back games coming off a road win. Dallas on the other hand is off a two day break and they are 47-32-2 ATS as a home favorite with 2 days off, and that goes to 18-9 ATS in the last 3 years, which goes to an outstanding 6-0 ATS if they are off a loss. When a team loses a key player, I have always believed they are a play ON in the next game because the other players rise to the occasion to make up for that players absence.

I went into the lab to crunch numbers on the Suns at the end of a road trip and this is what I found. The Suns are 88-98 ATS in road games when playing in the third game in four nights. When they are coming off a loss in the last game the number drops to 32-44 ATS and finally when they are a PK to 3 point favorite that are just 9-17 ATS covering at just a 35% clip.

The cats have revenge against the Bulls and catch them at a great time as the Bulls have been hampered with injuries to great players. I am going to cover every game quickly with some stats and the play I would suggest.

Knicks/Philly

If I had to take a side I would lean to the sixers but looking at the total tonight and I like the over 186. When these teams take the floor it’s a superstar mentality and defense shows up late. That turns into a scoring fest.

Detroit played last night and is off an impressive defensive performance and that never works out well for the Pistons. Detroit is 10-25 ATS after allowing 80 points or less and they face a team ready to defeat the Pistons.It was the Pistons who treated the Magic so rudely in April, turning the first playoff appearance in four years into a funeral-like finish at Amway Arena, casting a dark shadow over the improvement they had showed.

This is from the latest from the star on how O’Brien will play this team this year. If you think O'Brien is going to turn the new Pacers into the Phoenix Suns, don't hold your breath. These are O'Brien's own calculations: When Jermaine O'Neal is in the game, he will call set plays about 45 percent of the time and run the motion offense the rest of the time. When O'Neal is not in the game, taking away the Pacers' only true low-post threat, O'Brien will call plays roughly 40 percent of the time. I am not ready to take on the Pacers at home as a dog, but like the under.

Sixers +7
The Raptors are a good team, but Philly may surprise a few folks this year. Not ready to say they win this game tonight but will take the Raptors ATS. Philadelphia is 15-3 ATS away with a total of 180 to 189.5 points. The matchups are even in this one and this inflated line is off the good run by the Raptors and the rebuilding of the Sixers.

Memphis +6
The Spurs had a big win last night and have to travel to face Memphis on the road. The Spurs are a quality teams and NBA teams are no strangers to travel but the Grizzlies may win tonight. Grizzlies are great at home as a dog before a division game (25-15ATS) and the Spurs have a tough spot or two themselves in this game. The Grizzlies have never won a home opener and so motivation will not be a problem tonight.

NEW YORK -- Allan Houston ended his comeback attempt with the New York Knicks on Saturday, saving Isiah Thomas from possibly having to cut one of the top scorers in franchise history.
Houston rejoined his former team late last week, two years after he was forced to retire because of chronic knee pain. However, the Knicks already had the maximum 15 players under contract, and Thomas said he only gave the 36-year-old guard an invite to camp because of his history in New York.

Sportsbook.com has listed the Knicks as +3000 longshots to win the Eastern Conference.
Houston's chances were even slimmer because he didn't join the team until 10 days after practices began. He cited the timing issue in his decision to walk away again.

''While my body and my knees, in particular, feel fine, I know what is required for me to be truly effective in the NBA again, and it involves a timing and progression that would not be fair to Isiah and the Knicks right now,'' Houston said in a statement released by the Knicks. ''With the season opening less than two weeks away, I think it is best for the team to move on without me. I appreciate the opportunity that Isiah and the Knicks have given me, and I wish the team nothing but success.''

Houston played only six minutes in his lone preseason appearance Wednesday at Boston, then sat out a game at New Jersey the next night.
Houston spent nine seasons with the Knicks and is fourth on the team's career scoring list. He said upon his return that he didn't think he would try to latch on with another team if he didn't stick with the Knicks.

Trades change the Landscape

By Tuesday night the wagering landscape had changed on many fronts and the fallout in most cases will not be known for some time with immediate consequences felt at off-shore sportsbooks and casinos in Nevada because of trades in the NBA and Major League baseball that transpired.

The most widely known is the Kevin Garnett trade from the Land of 10,000 Lakes to the banks of the St. Charles River. The impact of two former Celtics players, now recognized as bubbling general managers, was easily identifiable on the Richter Scale of at least 8.3.
Minnesota’s GM Kevin McHale was never going to win a title with Garnett, not because of K.G.’s lack of skill, but because of his lack of skill in securing enough quality players that fit with the former prodigy. The excuses of having to pay Garnett too much money falls on deaf ears since it has been done in a variety of sports including the NBA. For all of wonderful qualities Garnett has, he never seemed to be the greatest of stars making others around him better. Maybe his former Timberwolves teammates didn’t have another gear to reach down to improve, yet in the end the hard working Garnett was like Lionel Ritchie, better known as solo act than in a group.
This deal works wonders for Kevin McHale staying employed in the Twin Cities as he probably buys himself three years. With a completely new cast, he can spread his arms out with palms up like he did as a player and say “What, me screw up?”

The crestfallen look on Danny Ainge’s face after not getting the number one or two draft choices from the lottery was much like Phil Hellmuth’s look going all in with pocket aces and losing on the “River” card to a straight flush. To Danny boy’s credit, he realized doing TV commercials in Massachusetts and Arizona was not what he wanted to do the rest of his life and like a poker player, showed his funambulism going “all in” trying to acquire pieces to place with Paul Pierce. (Say that fast five times) Oddmakers across the world adjusted the Celtics chances winning the Eastern Conference anywhere from 50-75 to 1, to 7-2 and now are the betting favorite at 5-2 at Sportsbook.com.
Opinions are varied as to how this might play out. StatFox Steve said this “The Celtics trade for Garnett was a coup for GM Danny Ainge. Not one of the numerous players he unloaded will ever amount to anything close to the "Big Ticket". K.G. immediately puts this team on the map as a contender in the Eastern Conference, similarly to the way Shaq did when he came to Miami. Paul Pierce-Ray Allen-Kevin Garnett is as good of a threesome as there is in the entire league, assuming Pierce can roll with the changes of not being "the man" anymore. While the 5-2 odds at Sportsbook.com to win the East may be a bit overzealous, there is no question that this is a serious contender now. Not only did Ainge pickup elite players in Allen and Garnett, he also got two of the league's most respected citizens, a rarity in this day and age.”

A larger problem comes into play for head coach Doc Rivers. Besides Garnett who plays defense for Boston? Ray Allen was not on anyone’s all-defensive team in his prime, now after a couple of ankles surgeries, hmmm. Paul Pierce has taken a great deal of punishment going to the baskets all those years and has not been able to stay healthy the last couple of seasons. If either or both get hurt, Garnett has much the same situation as he had in Minnesota, just wearing different uniform. Boston in the NBA finals, about as likely as Tom Brady deciding to play quarterback left-handed.

Celtics face familiar foe in Minnesota

LONDON - Staying in the same London hotel with employees from the company that recently sent you packing may seem odd, but the former Celtics who were packed off to Minnesota seem to be enjoying it.

The Timberwolves have seven ex-Celtics on their roster, five coming July 31 in the deal that brought 10-time NBA All-Star Kevin Garnett to Boston. Garnett will face the team he played for for 12 seasons Wednesday night at the soldout O2 Arena and the former Celtics will face their old team for the first time.

"It's not really weird," said Timberwolves guard Sebastian Telfair, who played for the Celtics last season. "It's business. It's good to see some of the old guys. A lot of those guys took care of me. I bumped into a lot of the old staff. It's been pretty cool."

Al Jefferson, who played for the Celtics from 2004-07, said: "It felt like old times going to each others' rooms and seeing each other."

Telfair, Jefferson, Ryan Gomes, Gerald Green, and Theo Ratliff and two first-round draft picks were dealt to Minnesota for Garnett. Those ex-Celtics played on the second-worst team in the NBA last season, enduring a franchise-worst 18-game losing streak.

Coach Doc Rivers said despite last season's struggles, the Celtics had a strong bond. Rivers and several other members of the Boston organization visited with the ex-Celtics during team dinners last night and bumped into one another all over the hotel.

"I talk to Al every once in a while," Rivers said. "I had a relationship with them all. Some I had to push more. Some loved it or some didn't. You just had to understand that it was coaching. They are all so young [except Ratliff] and have a chance to have a really bright future.
"Our guys got along last season. There was no blowup with players amongst the coaches. We had a close-knit group because of what we went through."

Said Green recently: "I thank Boston for everything they did for me. They were the first team that gave me a shot when I dropped a few slots in the draft."
Of the players dealt for 2004 NBA MVP Garnett, the one with the biggest upside appears to be 6-foot-10-inch, 256-pound Jefferson. The 22-year-old averaged 16 points and 11 rebounds last season.

"He can be a terrific scorer," Rivers said.

While the teams will meet Wednesday, Rivers expects a more emotional atmosphere when Garnett returns to Minnesota Feb. 8 and the former Celtics return to Boston Jan. 25.
"For Kevin it's going to be huge in Minneapolis," Rivers said. "Whenever you play with teammates there is passion because you want to beat your friends."

Green is looking forward to his return to Boston and seeing his old fans, but he expects an intense exhibition game Wednesday with a "family reunion" feel to it.

"It's going to be fun, but it's going to be competitive, I can tell you that much," said Green.
Said Jefferson: "It's going to be fun."

Rivers canceled practice because the team didn't arrive at the hotel until 4:15 a.m. yesterday. It was the first day off for the Celtics since training camp began Sept. 30. He said the majority of the players did not receive their bags until around 6 a.m.

"We wouldn't have got anything out of [practicing]," Rivers said.
Rivers watched the film of Saturday's 89-85 exhibition victory over the Raptors in Rome on the plane to London. He was impressed with the defense the first three quarters, but he said the team's transition defense needs improvement. He added that the ball movement was "great" and the scoring droughts took place when the offense became perimeter-oriented. Rivers also pointed out that outside of being in foul trouble, starting center Kendrick Perkins (8 points, 8 rebounds) "played terrific."

"Everyone played real well," Rivers said.
And the Celtics players were particularly excited when guard Tony Allen tomahawk-dunked against Toronto because it was Allen's first dunk since training camp began. Allen missed the last 48 games last season after undergoing left knee surgery. Although Allen came up limping afterward, Rivers said team doctor Brian McKeon said he was "fine."
"After he did it, he was scared to let go of the rim," Rivers said. "We hadn't seen that in camp or anything. That's why the bench was so happy. I was shocked."
